CHESTER- Mrs. Katherine (Murphy) Brown, 90, of 1205 Chester Village West, Chester, died Saturday afternoon Jan. 16, 2010 at her home. She was the widow of Sherman H. Brown who died in 1991 after 50 years of marriage.
Mrs. Brown was born in Naugatuck, Jan 18, 1919, the daughter of the late Jere J. and Katherine (Cross) Murphy and had been a Naugatuck resident most of her life, moving to Chester in 1994. She was educated in the Naugatuck school system and was a graduate of Bradford Junior College in Bradford, Mass. While a Naugatuck resident she had been a member of the Women's Study Club and an active volunteer with the Mattatuck Museum of Waterbury.
She leaves two daughters, Suzanna Blake of Blanchester, OH and Katherine "Sheri" Loeckler of Charlestown, RI; 4 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren.
A graveside service will be held on Saturday in Wooster Cemetery, Naugatuck. There are no calling hours. The Alderson Funeral Home of Naugatuck, 201 Meadow St. is in charge of arrangements.
