Kara A. DeCerb, age 44, of Cheshire entered into rest on Tuesday, May 19, 2015 at Yale-New Haven Hospital after a brief illness. She was born on October 30, 1970 in Waterbury, daughter of Craig DeCerb and Gloria (Fargnoli) Gombar.

Kara grew up in Prospect and attended Wolcott High School, where she was on the Softball Team and graduated from Cheshire High School, Class of 1988. She enjoyed swimming and was a member of the board at her condo association. Kara had a work ethic that was second to none, she was a talented retail manager who began her management career at the age of 21 with Brooks Pharmacy, later moving to CVS and for the last 5 years with the Dollar Tree Store in Waterbury, where she was dedicated to her work and spent many long hours, she was also the trainer for new managers. Kara was a wonderful mother, daughter, sister and friend, and made lasting friendships wherever she worked. She was caring, witty and smart, loved watching movies at home with her family.

She is the beloved mother Kira Lee DeCerb of Cheshire, cherished daughter of Gloria Gombar and her husband Gary of Cheshire and Craig DeCerb and his wife Marcy of Marion. She was the devoted companion of Michael Sparano of Cheshire. Kara is the loving sister of Lisa Whitaker and her husband Gene of Southington, Alyssa Gombar and her companion John Brooks of Cheshire and Arianne DeCerb of Marion. She is also survived by her aunts and uncles; Marian Herrick of Northampton, MA, Elaine and Henry Owen of Madison, Frank Fargnoli of Cheshire, Jessica and Charlie DiVito of Waterbury, Donna and William Burnes of Waterbury and Leon and Annette DeCerb of Greensburg, PA; her niece Molly and nephew Matthew, many loving cousins and her loyal Boxer, Ava Lee.

Kara’s family would like to extend their deepest gratitude to the Waterbury Hospital Emergency Department, Cardiac Team and Intensive Care Unit and also to the Yale New Haven Hospital Neuroscience Critical Care Unit for the compassionate care they provided for Kara.

Her funeral procession will leave the Alderson-Ford Funeral Home, 615 So. Main St., Cheshire, CT 06410 at 9:15AM on Saturday, May 23, 2015 for a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 10AM in St. Bridget Church, 175 Main Street, Cheshire. Interment will follow at St. Bridget Cemetery, Higgins Road, Cheshire. Friends may greet the family at the funeral home on Friday, May 22, 2015 from 6PM to 8PM.
