June Olson

JUNE H. OLSON, 93, who for the last six years lived on the starboard side of the 17th fairway of the Lost Plantation Golf Course left us to enter her peaceful rest awaiting God's trumpet call raising her and all believers in Christ to eternal life with Him. "Nana" as she was known to her six grand and six great-grandchildren was born in Naugatuck, CT on June 3, 1920 and died 16 years to the day after her husband Adrian Olson on July 6, 2013 at the Savannah Hospice House. Upon the passing of her sister Eleanor in 1987, Miss June moved from Naugatuck, CT to Southbury, CT. She and Adrian also spent wonderful times at their home in Charlestown Beach, RI where she became instrumental in establishing St. Andrew Lutheran Church which is now one of the largest Lutheran congregations in New England. She was also a charter member of Bible Lutheran in Rincon, Georgia which conducted its first worship service on November 8, 2009. Miss June is survived by two sons Pastor Richard A. Olson [Linda] of Gardner, Massachusetts and Thomas A. Olson [Darlene] of Southbury, Connecticut. She also leaves her daughter, Sally June Olson Krey [Pastor and Chaplain Andrew] with whom she lived until her passing in Rincon., GA. She was predeceased by her sister Eleanor Pigaty Smith of Southbury, CT and Robert Houseknecht [Edith] of Spring, TX. Besides many lifelong friends, she has many nieces, nephews and cousins around the country. Miss June will be missed by her three faithful caregivers: Vickie Turcotte, Clancey Oliver, and Mabeleen Goods. An avid golfer, rug hooker, and artist she enjoyed and gave liberal comments upon the swings of the golfers who passed her window along the 17th hole of the Lost Plantation Golf Course. One of her museum quality hooked rugs depicts the first Savings Bank in Scotland and hangs in her home in Southbury, CT. She will be remembered as an elegant hostess who enjoyed entertaining her husband's many banking associates and mutual friends. She was a loyal and generous supporter of Christian missionaries and church projects in general. For many years she was a Girl Scout leader and a Red Cross volunteer. There are no calling hours. A Celebration of the Promise of the Resurrection will be held at 1730 Hours [5:30 PM] on Wednesday July 10, 2013 at Bible Lutheran Church, Rincon, GA.
