Judith B. Burns

CHESHIRE- Judith B. Burns, 95, passed away Tuesday, October 4, 2022 at Maplewood at Newtown in Newtown. She was the wife of the late Robert J. Burns and a sixty-seven-year resident of Cheshire. Judy was born April 28,1927, in Waterbury, CT., daughter of the late Richard J. and Elizabeth (Fitzgerald) Boyle.

Judy was a retired school teacher having taught at Chapman Elementary School in Cheshire for many years. She also taught at Anderson Grammar School and Woodrow Wilson Elementary School in Waterbury, CT.  She was a graduate Sacred Heart High School (Class of 1944) and New Haven Teachers College.

A communicant of St. Bridget of Sweden Parish, Judy also served on the Cheshire YMCA Board of Directors and was a member of Cheshire High School Booster Club, Young Democrats of Cheshire and both the Connecticut and National Education Associations.

Judy leaves behind her sons, Robert J. Burns Jr., and his wife, Cathy of Terryville, CT, Patrick J. Burns, and his wife Nancy of Winston Salem, NC, Matthew F. Burns and his wife Jennifer of Newtown, CT, and her daughters, Mary Jane Burns and her husband Greg Little of Kiawah Island, SC, Ann B. Cannon and her husband John of Waldwick, NJ. She will also be missed by her nine grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. In addition to her husband and parents, Judy was predeceased by her sister Mary Jane Boyle.

Arrangements: A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday, October 15, 2022, at 10:00 A.M. at St. Bridget of Sweden Parish-St. Bridget Church, 175 Main St., Cheshire. Burial will follow in St. Bridget Cemetery. Friends may greet her family at the Alderson-Ford Funeral Home of Cheshire, 615 South Main Street, on Friday evening, October 14, 2022, from 5:00 to 7:00 P.M.
