CHESHIRE - Judith Ann (Judy) Barone died peacefully on Saturday April 29, 2023 at her home in Cheshire surrounded by her family. For nearly two years Judy struggled against pancreatic cancer. In her last days she was also comforted by the compassionate hospice care of the Franciscans of Meriden.
Judy was a native of Waterbury, the daughter of Salvatore Merluzzi and Ada Bartolini, and the wife of Richard Barone, also of Waterbury. The couple, who most recently celebrated their fiftieth wedding anniversary, moved to Cheshire in 1979, having lived previously in Wolcott and Waterbury. Judy is survived by her brother Joseph (Lorraine) of Tampa, Florida, her daughters Susan (David) and Rebecca of Cheshire, her son Richard of Waterbury, and two grandchildren, Madison, and Devon.
Judy was a devoted wife, mother, and confidant to many friends. She was at heart a teacher of young children, who served in the Cheshire School System from 1969 to 2007, spending nearly all of her teaching years in a kindergarten classroom at Darcy School. She was also a member of Delta Kappa Gamma, a professional society of women educators. Outside the classroom, Judy enjoyed hosting family gatherings, and was a life-long aficionado of quilting and the art of quilt design.
Arrangements: A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, May 5, 2023, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Bridget Church, 175 Main St., Cheshire. Friends are asked to meet promptly at the church, with burial to follow at Calvary Cemetery in Waterbury. There will be no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that contributions be made to either Franciscan Home and Hospice Care, 267 Finch Ave., Meriden, CT 06451, or online to the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network, at www.pancan.org.
