OLD SAYBROOK- Joseph W. Lux Sr., 88, formerly of Waterbury, passed away, Saturday, March 10, 2018 at Apple Rehab Saybrook. He was the widower of Gertrude (Buerkle) Lux, who he was married to for 52 years.
Mr. Lux was born May 8, 1929 in Waterbury, the son of the late Herman F. and Margaretha (Borchardt) Lux. He is predeceased by two brothers, Louis J., who gave his life for his country and a younger brother, who lost his life as a child.
He was a graduate of Crosby High School, Dartmouth College, and the Thayer School of Engineering. Joe was a Mechanical Engineer for Lux Time and Winchester Electronics prior to his retirement, and held many patents in that field.
Joe served on the Waterbury Urban Renewal Energy Agency, and was a member of the Waterbury Country Club, Harmony Lodge of Masons, the Sphinx Temple, American Society of Mechanical Engineers, and the Waterbury Power Squadron where he taught boating courses for many years.
Joe was an avid sailor and golfer, who enjoyed sharing his love of skiing, sailing and model airplanes with his family.
Mr. Lux leaves his son Joseph W. Lux Jr. of Essex; a daughter Lisa A. Lux of Winnetka, Ill; and five grandchildren.
Arrangements- A Graveside Service for Mr. Lux will be held 11 A.M, Thursday, March 15, 2018, at New Pine Grove Cemetery, 850 Meriden Road, Waterbury, 06705. Family and friends are asked to meet directly at the cemetery. Burial will follow after the service and there are no calling hours. The Alderson-Ford Funeral Home of Waterbury, 496 Chase Ave, 06704 is assisting the family with Joe’s arrangements. In lieu of flowers, donations in his name can be made to the American Cancer Society.
