CHESHIRE - Joseph Vitello, 83, passed away Thursday, November 16, 2017 at Meadow Mills in Hamden. He was the husband of the late Mary P. (Ruggiero) Vitello who passed away in 2002.
Mr. Vitello was born June 21, 1934 in Hamden, the son of the late John and Angelina (Barra) Vitello. He was a longtime resident of Cheshire where he was a communicant of St. Thomas Becket Church. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, 4th Degree, Council # 6801 in Northford and a member of the International Union of Bricklayers & Allied Craftworkers. He was very proud of his work, often pointing out different buildings he worked on. Later on, he was self-employed as Vitello Masonry.
Mr. Vitello is survived by his son Joseph R. Vitello and his wife Maureen of Cheshire; his daughters Angela Bird and her husband W. Clifton of Southington, Catherine Vitello-Fisher and her husband Stephen of Cheshire, and Laurie McElvery of Buford,GA; his grandchildren Joseph (Tyna), Michael (Kaitlyn) and Matthew Vitello, Richard (Jenn), Jonathan and Christopher Bird, Andrew and Mary Jo Fisher, and William, James (Hallie) and Griffin McElvery; 2 great granddaughters; and a sister Elizabeth Brady of Hamden. Besides his wife and parents, Mr. Vitello is predeceased by his Brothers, Frank, Arthur and John Vitello.
Arrangements – Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, November 21, 2017, 9:15 from the Alderson-Ford Funeral Home of Cheshire, 615 S. Main St. to St. Thomas Becket Church, 435 N. Brooksvale Rd., Cheshire for a Mass of Christian burial at 10:00 am. Burial will follow in St. Bridget Cemetery. Calling hours will be held on Monday, from 5 to 7 p.m. at, the funeral home.
