Cheshire – Joseph Rotell, 91, passed away peacefully on June 25, 2022, at Yale-New Haven Hospital, St. Raphael Campus, surrounded by his loving family. He was the husband of the late Loretta (Polanin) Rotell, who passed away in 2020.
Mr. Rotell was born December 9, 1930, in Carbondale, PA, the son of the late Joseph and Elizabeth (Wasley) Rotell. He attended the University of Scranton before serving his country in the U.S. Airforce. After his honorable discharge, he was a civilian employee at Stewart Airforce Base, before moving to CT where he was a 40-year resident of Ansonia prior to living in Hamden and Cheshire.
After a 36-year career as a Manager in the Aerospace Engineering field, working for Textron and Avco, he and his wife spent over 25 years as snowbirds in Pompano, FL.
A man of strong faith, he was a communicant of St. Bridget of Sweden Parish. He was a Yankee and NY Giant Fan who enjoyed traveling to the casino with his wife. He was quite an entertainer, but his biggest joy was spending time with family. He treated his children and grandchildren’s friends like family encouraging them to call him “Papa Joe”.
