Jonathan Dickerman Hoyt, 42 of Hamden, passed away Friday, July 12, 2024, after a long illness. He was born November 6, 1981, in Meriden, CT to Howard D. Hoyt and Joann Sweeney Zeisner. Jon was predeceased by his paternal grandparents, Elwood and Vivian Hoyt, and his maternal grandparents, Mary Sweeney, Louis and Dorothy Sweeney.
Jon grew up in Wallingford, where he attended Sheehan High School. After high school he followed his life’s ambition of working in the family business, Eastern Fuel Corporation of Hamden. Jon held many positions at the home heating oil company, receiving his oil burner service certification from ENTECH and his commercial driver’s license that he used to deliver heating oil to homes throughout New Haven County. Being part of the 5th generation at Eastern Fuel, Jon had great familiarity with the customers, knowing most of them on a first name basis and had a very clear understanding of where they lived. This knowledge later allowed Jon to easily transition to a role in the office as the delivery dispatcher.
Having a huge love for all of Boston’s professional sports teams as well as the University of Notre Dame college football team, Jon enjoyed rooting for all his teams’ championship runs with friends and family. Jon loved playing in competitive dart leagues with his friends, golfing, watching WWE professional wrestling and spending time with his nieces and nephew. His favorite place was summer vacation in Wolfeboro, New Hampshire where he would laugh in the water with his family and friends or find peace in solitude on a ride around the lake by himself on his jet ski. Jon had the biggest heart and will be deeply missed by his loving family and friends.
In addition to his parents, Jon leaves behind his sister, Jaclyn Condon (Cameron) of Cheshire; nieces Vivian and Evelyn Condon; nephew Grant Condon; uncles and aunts Woody Hoyt (Sandy), Lois Sweeney, Kathy Kramer (Artie), Judy Sokoloff (Mike), and Mark Sweeney (Kathleen); cousins Penny Geyer, Meg O’Toole, Brian, and Tommy Sokoloff.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, July 18, 2024 from 4:00 P.M. until 6:00 P.M. at the Alderson-Ford Funeral Home of Cheshire, 615 South Main Street. A mass will be held on Friday, July 19, 2024 at 10:00 A.M. at St. Bridget of Sweden Parish / St. Bridget Church, 175 Main Street, Cheshire. Family and friends are asked to meet directly at church. Burial will be held privately at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Jon’s memory to the American Lung Association or the American Heart Association.
