CHESHIRE - John W. Caldwell, 86, passed away Friday, January 23, 2015 at the Cheshire House in Waterbury, CT. He was the husband of Jeanne (Coyle) Caldwell.
Mr. Caldwell was born February 14, 1928 in Atlantic City, NJ. He was the son of the late John W. and Violet (Raymond) Caldwell.
After graduating from Germantown High School, in Philadelphia, he began his career with the Pennsylvania Rail Road. After a term in the United States Marine Corp, he went on to become a Pennsylvania State Trooper, which led to his own security and investigation firm in Philadelphia, PA. In 1970 he joined the Scovill Manufacturing Company in Waterbury, CT., as Corporate Director of Security and Safety until his retirement in 1996. Throughout his life he had a passion for trains, his horses, and his dogs. His grandchildren and great-grandchildren were also a great source of enjoyment.
Besides his wife of 64 years, Mr. Caldwell is survived by sons, John W. Caldwell, Bruce D. Caldwell and his wife Christine all of Cheshire, a daughter Sally and her husband John J. O'Donnell of Philadelphia, PA, along with 6 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren.
A Mass will be held at the convenience of the family and there are no calling hours. Memorial contributions may be made to Autism Speaks, 1060 State Road, 2nd Floor, Princeton, NJ 08540. The Alderson-Ford Funeral Home of Cheshire is assisting with arrangements.
