CHESHIRE, CT - John David Vlahos, 64, passed away Thursday, Dec. 27, 2012 after a respiratory illness.
John was born on June 3, 1948 in Lynn, MA, son of the late Alec Anthony and Margaret Valarie (Ray) Vlahos. He leaves three brothers: Alec A. Vlahos, Jr. (Dawna) of Cheshire, Anthony D. Vlahos (Karen) of Boxford, MA, and Noah Vlahos (Beth) of Swampscott, MA, and a sister, Faith M. McRobbie (Mark Purdy) of Derry, NH.
Born with Down syndrome, John lived in Lynn until the early 1980's when he moved with his mother to the Summerville, SC area. In 1995, he moved to Cheshire and lived with his brother "Butch" his wife, Dawna, and their children, Andrea and Nick. John thrived on and showed a kind of love that transcended his disability. Everyone who met him was touched by his warmth. He enjoyed coloring books, detective shows, westerns, music of all genres, playing the guitar, harmonica, and piano, dancing, and swimming. He enjoyed most foods, and particularly liked Bojangle's fried chicken. John last worked at COCO (now Abilities Without Boundaries). John was a member of the First Congregational Church of Southington.
Arrangements - Funeral services will be held on Friday January 4, 2013 at 11 a.m. at the Solimine Funeral Home 426 Broadway (Rt. 129), Lynn, MA with visitation from 10 a.m. until the time of the service. Burial will follow in Pine Grove Cemetery in Lynn, MA. Local calling hours will be held at the Alderson Funeral Home of Cheshire, 615 S. Main St., from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Wednesday, January 2, 2013.
