John McNamara

CHESHIRE - John G. "Jack" McNamara, 63, passed away September 28, 2011. He was the husband of Gayle (Galko) McNamara.

Jack was born June 8, 1948 in Waterbury the son of the late Police Chief John G. and Alida (Cahill) McNamara. He was raised in Cheshire where he followed his father's footsteps and became a Police Officer in 1969. He achieved the rank of Lieutenant with the Cheshire police department before retiring in 1992. After his retirement, Jack worked as a security officer for the North Haven School system and for Automotive Edge in Cheshire. He was a member of the B.P.O.E #1365 in Wallingford and the Prospect V.F.W. #8075 Men's Auxillary.

Besides his wife of 5 years, Jack is survived by his son Brian McNamara and his wife Megan of Southington; his daughter Carrie Lee and her husband Tony of Derby; his brothers Thomas McNamara of Cheshire and James McNamara of Cheshire; his sisters Doreen Everett of Indiana and Mary Stopkoski of Cheshire; his grandchildren Austin, Bryce and Avyn as well as several nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his brother Michael and his granddaughter Amber.

The McNamara Family would like to thank Dr. Peter Marks and his team at Smilo for all of their kindness and support. Also a "special thank you" to Mary "Mother" Galko for all that she has done to keep Jack comfortable as well as aunt Squeaky for all of her time and care for Jack.

Arrangements - Funeral services will be held on Sunday October 2, 2011 at 5 p.m. at the Alderson funeral Home of Cheshire, 615 S. Main St. Burial will be held at the convenience of the family in St. Bridget Cemetery. Calling hours will be held on Sunday at the funeral home from 3 p.m. until the start of the service.
