WATERBURY- John “Jack” Joseph Gannon, age 88, passed away July 5, 2015 at Wolcott View Manor surrounded by his loving family. He was the loving husband of Betty Jean (Simmons) Gannon to whom he was married for 63 years.
Jack was born September 11, 1926 in Waterbury son of the late James J. and Mary (Lalor) Gannon.
Mr. Gannon proudly served in the United States Navy during World War II. While in the Navy he received the American Theater Medal, European Theater Medal, Asiatic Pacific Theater Medal, Presidential Unit Citation, and a Victory Medal.
Jack was a Culinary Assistant at the VA facility in Rocky Hill prior to his retirement.
Besides his loving wife, Mr. Gannon is survived by his sons James Gannon and his wife Stacie of Wolcott; Joseph Gannon and his wife Lynne, William Gannon and his wife Gloria, Sean Gannon and his partner David Nichol, and Timothy Gannon of Waterbury; Michael Gannon and his wife Kathleen of Southbury; Guy Gannon and his fiancé Nadine Scozzafava of Bethlehem; and his daughters Deborah Noel and her husband Larry, and Kelly Kerski and her husband Kenneth of Waterbury; Mary Lou Lavoie and her husband Bob of Bristol, Karen Parsell and her husband Jim of Southbury; and Patricia Gannon and her spouse Ashley Roberts of Winsted; twenty grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his granddaughter Kelly Babin.
Arrangements - A funeral service for Jack will start 9 A.M Thursday July 9, 2015 from The Alderson-Ford Funeral Home of Waterbury, 9 Holmes Ave, 06710 and proceed to St. Michael’s RC Church, 62 St Michael's Dr, Waterbury, CT 06704, for a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 A.M. Burial will follow in All Saints Cemetery, 203 Spring Lake Rd, Waterbury, CT 06706. Calling hours will be Wednesday, July 8, 2015 from 5 to 8 P.M at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers donations in his name may be made to “Mattatuck Volunteers”, PO Box 257, Plymouth, CT 06782-0257 (Boy Scout camp).
