John Dibble

MIDDLEBURY-John Davis Dibble, 78, of Middlebury died December 2, 2009 at the Glendale Center in Naugatuck. He was the husband of Allie Dibble and a son of the late Lewis A. and Doris (Rudman) Dibble.

John was born in Waterbury on Oct. 12, 1931. He grew up in Naugatuck where he attended Salem School. He also attended McTernan School, the Kent School, and graduated from Westminster School. After his graduation from Yale he served in the Army for two years.

In 1956 he joined The Eastern Company and worked in two of its divisions, Frazier and Jones in Syracuse, NY, and Eastern Casting in Newburgh, NY. He transferred to the corporate headquarters in 1968 as Assistant to the President and retired in June, 2000.

John was passionate about music, especially opera and classical music. He was an avid sports fan, a fisherman, hunter, tennis player, and golfer. He was a literacy volunteer and a member of the Middlebury Town Pension Committee. John was a member of the East Haddam Fishing and Game Club and was active on their board for many years. He was also a member of the Highfield club and The Waterbury Club.

In addition to his wife of fifty years, Allie, John is survived by his sons Mark P. Dibble and his wife, Anne Stetson, and Warren G. Dibble and his wife, Ali Burke, and four granddaughters. He was pre-deceased by his four siblings, Doris (Dibble) Schenck, Jane (Dibble) Tracy, Lewis A. Dibble, Jr., and Nancy (Dibble) Heyniger.

A memorial service will be held at 11am, Saturday, December 12, at The Middlebury Congregational Church, 1242 Whittemore Rd. There are no calling hours. Arrangements are under the care of The Alderson Funeral Home of Naugatuck, 201 Meadow St. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in his name to the Westminster School, 995 Hopmeadow Rd., Simsbury, CT, 06070 or The Middlebury Congregational Church, 1242 Whittemore Rd., Middlebury, CT 06762.
