CHESHIRE - John Bammann, 91, passed away Tuesday, January 19, 2016 at Masonicare Health Center in Wallingford. He was the husband of Carolyn (Smith) Bammann.
Mr. Bammann was born February 17, 1924 in Queens, NY, the son of the late Henry and Eva (Blye) Bammann. John volunteered for the U.S. Navy upon early graduation from Brooklyn Technical High School and served in the Pacific Theatre during World War II. He was assigned to the destroyer U.S.S. Hickox and saw action in many of the main South Pacific WWII battles. His ship also survived the infamous Cobra Typhoon in 1944.
Upon discharge, he entered the Brooklyn College of Pharmacy, graduating in 1949. His pharmaceutical career stretched from being a New York City Pharmacist to 37 years as a Sales representative for Park Davis Drug Company.
John was a member of the Cheshire Lutheran Church. He was also a Mason and member of several area Fish and Game Clubs. He had a lifelong passion for outdoor sports and enjoyed the companionship of other ardent and accomplished sportsman like himself.
Besides his wife of 55 years, he is survived by his two daughters and their husbands Eva and Jonathan Schrumm and Christine and Paul Smith; five granddaughters Erica (Schrumm) Bencivenga, Andrea Schrumm, Emily, Allison and Megan Smith; his Great Granddaughter, Claire Bencivenga; and his Grandson-in-law, Mario Bencivenga.
Arrangements – Funeral services will be held on Friday, January 22, 2016 at 10 a.m. at the Cheshire Lutheran Church, 660 W. Main Street with Military Honors. Burial will follow in Cheshire Hillside Cemetery. Calling hours will be held on Thursday from 4 - 7 p.m. at the Alderson-Ford Funeral Home of Cheshire, 615 South Main St. Memorial contributions may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project, P.O.
