SIMSBURY; Joan (Kelly) Pollard, 70, who resided at Harborside Health Care in Simsbury for the past 2 years, passed away Tuesday June 2, 2009 at Saint Francis Hospital in Hartford.
Joan was born November 1, 1938 in Waterbury a daughter of the late John and Mary (Neville) Kelly. She was a graduate of Waterbury Catholic High School and Saint Joseph's College in West Hartford. She was a Special Education Teacher at the Gengras Center, SAND and the Fred D. Wish School in Hartford for many years until her retirement. Her hobbies included painting, reading and music. She loved to travel when able and loved to be near the ocean. She was an avid fan of UCONN basketball.
She leaves her sisters-in-law, Hilda and Roberta Kelly and several nieces, nephews, grand nieces and nephews, cousins and friends. She was predeceased by her former husband Sidney Pollard and her brothers, James and Robert Kelly.
A graveside service for Joan will be held Monday June 8 at 10 a.m. at Calvary Cemetery in Waterbury. A memorial mass will follow at Saint's Peter and Paul Church 67 Southmayd Road in Waterbury at 10:30 a.m. There are no calling hours. The Mulville Funeral Home 270 West Main Street in Waterbury has care of arrangements.
