GLASTONBURY – Joan Marie (Weik) Cunningham, born on August 25, 1932, passed away at her home on Friday, January 15, 2021, after a short illness. She was the beloved wife of the late Leonard L Cunningham.
Joan, a 57 year resident of Cheshire, was a devoted daughter, wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. She was unwavering with her love and attention to her family, loved her crafts, baking, and writing poems for special people and events in her life. Joan adored her devoted cat “Sugar” named after her love of everything sweet.
Born in Torrington to parents Jacob and Grace (Raymond) Weik, she graduated from James Morris High School, Class of 1950 where she was an avid basketball player. After graduating high school Joan pursued a career in banking. While attending a wedding she met the love of her life “Lenny”, they married shortly after in 1956 and enjoyed 56 years of marriage before his passing in 2012.
Joan is survived by her daughter Kimberly Langan and her husband Gene of Glastonbury; her son Mark Cunningham of Meriden and Linda Witkovic; her daughter Cheri French of Milton Vermont; and her four Grandchildren who lovingly called her “Mimi”, Gene Patrick and Kelly Langan of Glastonbury, Jacob and Tyler French of Milton, VT. Besides her children and grandchildren, she is survived by her sisters Barbara Rivers of Morris, Donna Turrell of Pittsfield, MA and predeceased by Francis Palmer of Bantam.
Joan worked for over 25 years in the Guidance Department at Cheshire High School where she retired in June of 1996. She thoroughly enjoyed her lasting friendships with many of those she worked with. After retirement she loved spending time with her grandchildren, traveling to Vermont and Florida and her cherished weekly lunches with her very dear friend Monique.

Arrangements – Funeral services were private, and burial was held on Monday, January 18, 2020, at St. Bridget Cemetery, Cheshire, CT. The Alderson-Ford Funeral Home of Cheshire assisted with arrangements.
