Waterbury - Jerome Herbert Kaplan, 83, of Waterbury passed away Sunday January 17, 2010 at his home. He was the beloved husband of Libbye (London) Kaplan.
Mr. Kaplan was born May 20, 1926 in Waterbury, CT, the son of the late Louis and Sarah (Harris) Kaplan. He graduated from Anderson School, Crosby High School and University of Miami. He served in Austria during World War II as a corporal in the U.S. Army.
Mr. Kaplan was President and Owner of Kaplan Bros. Inc., Past President of the Western Connecticut Jewish Community Center and had served on the Board of Directors of the Jewish Federation. He also was Past President of the Connecticut Chapter of the American Contract Bridge League where he reached rank of Bronze Life Master in bridge.
Besides his wife of 56 years, he was the loving father of Janet Lieberson and her husband Robert of Marblehead, Massachusetts and Richard Kaplan and his wife Mary of Waterbury, CT and the cherished Grandfather of Sarah and Matthew Lieberson and the Brother of Eugene Kaplan.
Arrangements ' Funeral services will be held on Tuesday January 19, 2010 at 1 p.m. at the Alderson Funeral Home of Waterbury, 9 Holmes Ave. Burial will follow in Hebrew Benefit Cemetery. Shiva will be observed on Tuesday from the time of the service until 8 p.m. at the Community Room at the Village at East Farms, 180 Scott Rd., Waterbury and on Wednesday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Richard Kaplan, 52-9 Deerwood Lane, Waterbury.
