Jennie Elizabeth (Arisco) Galko, age 95, of Southington, formerly of Cheshire and Wallingford entered into rest on Thursday, April 23, 2015 at the Meriden Center. She was the loyal and beloved wife of the late Frank Galko for over 48 years. Jennie was born on May 7, 1919 in New Haven, daughter of the late Alexander and Assunta (Lericia) Arisco.
Jennie attended Cheshire schools and Wilby High School and was an employee of International Silver Factory for over 15 years. Jennie and Frank were married on December 1, 1945, and worked together on their farm (Galko Farm) in Wallingford until Frank's passing in 1993. Soon after, their daughter Laurie along with Jennie continued to operate the farm until it was sold in 2001. Galko Farm was purchased by the Town of Wallingford, and is currently an open space preserve. Jennie was a longtime member of the CT Farm Bureau and loved canning plum tomatoes, pears and peaches. She enjoyed making homemade pepper relish and preserving strawberry and raspberry jams. As a family, Jennie, Frank and Laurie made the most exquisite homemade apple pies from apples grown by Jennie and Frank from the orchards they both maintained. Her favorite recipe was an age old custom of cooking squash and pumpkin blooms or flower blossoms into a pancake.
She is the beloved mother and best friend of Laurie Galko of Southington which whom she lived with her entire life. She is also survived by her Godson Scott Arisco and numerous loving nieces, nephews and cousins. Jennie was predeceased by all of her siblings; Concetta Rubbo, Anna Perrone, Rose Vitello, Joseph Arisco, Michael Arisco Sr., Carmen Arisco Sr., Alex Arisco Jr., Frank Arisco, Louis Arisco and Anthony Arisco Sr.
For over 10 years Jennie never missed and appointment with Dr. Philip Mongelluzzo and her daughter would like to express her gratitude for his exceptional care he always provided for Jennie.
Jennie's funeral procession will leave the Alderson-Ford Funeral Home of Cheshire, 615 So. Main St., Cheshire, CT 06410 on Tuesday, April 28, 2015 at 10AM for a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 11AM in Our Lady of Fatima Church in 382 Hope Hill Rd., Wallingford. Interment will follow in St. Peter and St. Paul Cemetery, Durham Rd., Wallingford. Friends may greet the family at the funeral home on Tuesday morning from 9AM-10AM.
