CHESHIRE - Jean L. Burgess, beloved wife, mother, grandmother and friend to all, passed away peacefully Tuesday January 12, 2016 at her home with family by her side. She was the wife of the late John W. Burgess D.C., who passed away in 2000.
Mrs. Burgess was born December 11, 1925 in Brooklyn, NY, the daughter of the late Boughton C. and Marion H. (Cornils) Northrup. While growing up in L.I., she was a dancer, (especially tap) and singer, performing in many shows in N.Y. In New York City, she held several positions in the Insurance industry, Hollis Bank and Sperry Gyroscope. It was at Sperry that she and John met and fell in love. On September 10, 1960, they were married in Cheshire. John and Jean set up residence and his Chiropractic practice in Cheshire and made it their home. Jean was a loving and devoted mother. She was involved in every aspect of her children's lives and was their constant, cheerful influence.
Jean was a Cheshire resident for 56 years and an active member of several organizations including St. Peters Episcopal Church, the Cheshire Senior Center, the Red Hat Society and the Cheshire Community Theater and Chorus. She loved her friends and is known as fun-loving, happy, inclusive, entertaining and a woman with class. She was full of faith, hope, love, life, goodness and a sense of humor. She touched lives with her uplifting attitude and constant smile. "Everyday is a gift", was her motto.
Mrs. Burgess is survived by her son John W. Burgess of Waterbury (Molly Holmes, spouse); her daughter, Janet L. Burgess-Russon of Utah, (Richard S. Russon, spouse), her grandchildren Pita, Ashly, Kimberly and Michael Russon; and her great grandchildren, Kaylee and Tevau.
Arrangements – Funeral services will be held on Friday January 22, 2016 at 11 a.m. at St. Peters Episcopal Church, 59 Main St., Cheshire. Burial will follow in St. Peter’s Cemetery. Calling hours will be held on Thursday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Alderson-Ford Funeral Home of Cheshire, 615 S. Main St.
