Janet Young

Janet (Borriello) Young, age 94 of Wallingford and St. Augustine, FL and formerly of Cheshire, passed away on March 10, 2025 at MidState Medical Center in Meriden. She was the devoted wife of the late Gordon S. Young. Janet was born on April 24, 1930 in Meriden, daughter of the late Pasquale and Edna (Lundquist) Borriello.

Janet was raised in Meriden and started her family in South Meriden with Gordon before moving to Cheshire 1956. She was hard working and highly respected by her colleagues with a unique niche as a Theatrical accountant. She started out as the book keeper for the Oakdale Musical Theater in Wallingford and quickly worked her way up to Controller. After 13 years at the Oakdale, she moved on to the Hartford Civic Center also as a Controller; she also worked as a finance director for the City of Hartford.

She and Gordon lived a full life, both becoming Chart Certified Pilots. They also had several boats over the years sailing to places such as Bermuda, coastal Maine and other destinations. Janet and Gordon were both Masons at the Temple Lodge 16 in Cheshire; Janet an Eastern Star Mason, and Gordon as well. They retired to Florida in 1995.

Upon retiring to Florida, she and Gordon started to do volunteer work for an organization called EMMA, which promotes classical concerts in St Augustine. How lucky was EMMA to have them, with Janet's extensive experience in Theater accounting and Gordon's computer savvy, setting up a real time on-line seat chart that highlighted sold seats/available seats, etc. The organization grew leaps and bounds under their leadership.

Janet is the beloved mother of Richard Young and his wife, Jane of Clinton; John Young and his wife, Francine of Southington; and Dr. Paul Young and his wife, Pam of Ponte Vedra, FL. She also leaves her loving grandchildren, Sarah Jane Young [Kyle], Eric Richard [Amanda], Andrew, Ben [Whitney], Jill [Kevin], Ariel and Matt; her cherished great-grandchildren, August Quigley Young and Netta Maude Young; and her sister-in-law, Joan Borriello. She was predeceased by her siblings, Ralph and Marion Borriello.
