Elvira J. Janeiro Waterbury Buckle retiree
RIBEIRA DO FARRIO, Portugal - Elvira Joaquina Antunes Janeiro, 83, of Ribeira do Farrio, Portugal, passed away peacefully at Saint Mary's Hospital on Feb. 9, 2013, surrounded by her family. She will be truly missed by many, including those fortunate enough to see her during what turned out to be her final visit from Portugal.
Elvira was born on Nov. 18, 1929, in Povoa, Frexianda, Portugal, and spent her childhood living in Portugal and France. In 1969, she moved to Waterbury, Conn., with her husband, Joaquim Goncalves Janeiro, where they made a home for them and their four children. After her retirement from Waterbury Buckle in 1987, they returned to their native Portugal.
Elvira enjoyed life, including music, crocheting and helping her husband with their garden. She will always be remembered for her warmth, her patience, her smile, and the devotion she had for her family.
Elvira joins her husband of 57 years, and is survived by her four children: Armando and his wife, Lurdes, of Prospect, Connie Pereira and her husband, Filipe, also of Prospect, Faustino and his wife, Michelle, of Wolcott, and Alberto and his wife, Rosa, of Naugatuck. She also leaves 11 grandchildren whom she loved very much: Peter, Daniel, Mark, Sofia, Raymond, Michael, Christina, Melissa, Steven, Lisa and Emily. She also leaves her two sisters in Portugal, Maria Simoes and Conceicao Alves, and was preceded in death by her brother, Antonio Antunes of Waterbury, Conn.
A funeral Mass will be held 9:30 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 14, 2013, at Our Lady of Fatima Church, 2071 Baldwin St., Waterbury. Family and friends are asked to please meet directly at the church. Burial will be in Portugal. There are no calling hours. The Buckmiller Brothers Funeral Home, 26 Waterbury Road, Route 69, Prospect, is in charge of arrangements.
