Jane Richards, age 94, of Cheshire entered into rest on November 7, 2024 at MidState Medical Center in Meriden. Jane was born on August 28, 1930 in Detroit, MI, daughter of the late Thomas and Virginia (Maxwell) Lehman.
Jane spent her youth in Cape Elizabeth, ME. She earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Michigan, and a Master’s Degree from Boston University. Jane worked as a speech pathologist for the Cheshire Public Schools for 39 years and, thereafter, continued working for another 20 years, performing hearing tests throughout the Cheshire school system.
Jane had many interests and friends. She travelled the country and many parts of the world with her dear friend, Gundi. Over the years, she was a very active member within her church community. She loved the camaraderie in her church and the pool exercise classes in which she faithfully participated weekly. Jane treasured her many years of golf and the cherished friendships that were formed through her golf leagues and association with the Women’s Club of Cheshire. She enjoyed giving school tours and tours at the Cheshire Historical Society. Jane was a dedicated and loving volunteer for over fifty years at the Cheshire Animal Center, where she helped and cared for homeless animals.
Jane is survived by many beloved friends in the Cheshire community and beyond.
A Memorial Service for Jane will be held on Monday, December 2, 2024 at 11AM at the First Congregational Church of Cheshire, 111 Church Drive, Cheshire, CT 06410. Memorial contributions may be made in Jane’s memory to the Cheshire Animal Shelter Volunteers, P.O. Box 523, Cheshire, CT 06410-0523.
