Jane M. Saunders

NAUGATUCK – Jane M. Saunders, 91, passed away Friday, March 4, 2016 at home. She was the wife of Alden T. “Judge” Saunders.

Mrs. Saunders was born September 23, 1924 in Waterbury, the daughter of the late Peter J. and Minnie (Mortensen) Moeckel Sr. A lifelong resident of Naugatuck, Mrs. Saunders was an active member of St. Michael’s Episcopal Church. She served on the Altar Guild, the Thursday Nighters and Episcopal Churchwomen, serving as President, Treasurer and Secretary of these groups. She was a member of Churchwomen United, the Naugatuck Conference of Churches, the Naugatuck Historical Society and Friends of the Library. After many years of service to the Naugatuck Board of Education, Mrs. Saunders retired as Benefits Coordinator in 1989.

Besides her husband of 68 years, Mrs. Saunders is survived by her daughter Nikki, her brother Kenneth, and several nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews. Besides her parents, Mrs. Saunders is predeceased by her brother Peter.

Arrangements – Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, March 16, 2016 at St. Michael’s Episcopal Church, 210 Church St., Naugatuck at 10 a.m. Burial will be held at the convenience of the family in Grove Cemetery and there are no calling hours. Memorial contributions may be made to the Langhorst Scholarship Fund, c/o St. Michael’s Episcopal Church, the Naugatuck Historical Society, 171 Church Street, Naugatuck, CT 06770 or the Whittemore Library, 243 Church St., Naugatuck, CT 06770. The Alderson-Ford Funeral Home of Naugatuck, 201 Meadow St. is assisting with arrangements.
