James “Jim” Edward Conger, age 76, of Cheshire entered into rest on Thursday, July 26, 2018 at CT Hospice in Branford. He was born on March 1, 1942 in Bethel, CT, son of the late Edward and Louise (Nichols) Conger.
Jim and his family moved to Oahu, Hawaii for 6 years and in 1955 moved to Cheshire. He was a graduate of Cheshire High School, Class of 1960. Jim received his Associate’s degree from UCONN Agricultural School and served his country with honor and pride with the United States Marine Corps. He was an employee of Kurtz Farms in Cheshire for over 50 years, where he was responsible for monitoring the fleet and equipment. Jim loved animals and kept the local wildlife fed along with many cats he rescued, he had a passion for trains, UCONN Men’s Basketball, he was an avid reader and he knew where all the ice cream spots are in CT.
Jim is survived by his loving sisters, Carol Conger Ricker (Bruce) of Higganum and Ruth Conger Crespi (Paul Butterfield) of Bloomfield. He is also survived by his cherished nieces and nephews, Karen Ricker Hunt of Cromwell, CT, Cathy Ricker Lipski of Statesville, NC, Dr. Jodie Crespi Silver (Michael) of Las Vegas, NV, Scott Crespi (Rebecca) of West Hartford, CT and Louisa Kapodistrias Crespi of Tokyo, Japan; and 10 great-nieces and great-nephews and 2 great-great-nieces.
Jim’s family would like to thank Hugh Kurtz and his family for the help and support during Jim’s illness and also to the staff at CT Hospice for the compassionate care they provided to Jim.
Friends may greet Jim’s family at the Alderson-Ford Funeral Home of Cheshire, 615 So. Main Street Cheshire, CT 06410 on Thursday, August 2, 2018 from 5PM until 7PM.
