James Greaney

WATERBURY-James J. Greaney, 49, son of the late Francis P. "Benjy"and Margaret "Peggy" (Barrett) Greaney, died unexpectedly on Wednesday, February 9th. Jim was a loving and generous son, brother and uncle to his large Irish family. He grew up in Waterbury, attending local schools and graduated from Porter & Chester Institute in Watertown.

Jim was employed with Murphy Security Services, recently employed at the Gaylord Rehabilitation Hospital in Wallingford. He was retired from the City of Waterbury after 25 years in the paint & sign division of the Waterbury Police Department.

He had a great love of automobiles and 1950's music, often attending car shows near and far, and enjoying the old time concerts when they came to area concert halls.

He is survived by his brother Donald and wife Roseanne of Wolcott, his brother Frank and wife Debbie of Wolcott, his sister Patricia Romano of Waterbury, sister Helen and husband Alton Taylor of Waterbury, sister Pamela and husband John Shea of Southington, sister Marybeth Greaney of Middletown and brother William and his wife Lucy of Avon Ohio. He is predeceased by a brother, Gregory Greaney formerly of Waterbury.

In addition to his siblings, Jim is survived by aunts and uncles, and the many nieces and nephews he adored, including Kimberly, Christopher, Daniel, Michelle, Nicholas, Sarah, Cedric, AJ, Jacqueline, Karla and Jeremy, Lucy, Gregory and Mary Clare and their growing families. He will be missed by his many good friends, especially Dick Rappelt.

Funeral services for Jim will be held Saturday at 9:15 a.m. from the Mulville Funeral Home 270 West Main Street to the Basilica of the Immaculate Conception 74 West Main Street for a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery in Waterbury. Family and friends may call at the funeral home on Friday (today) from 4 to 8 p.m.
