SIMSBURY; Mr. James B. Benson, 87 of Simsbury formerly of 86 Greenleaf Avenue in Waterbury, died peacefully Friday May 14, 2010 at the McLean Home in Simsbury.
Mr. Benson was born January 6, 1923 in Thomaston a son of the late James and Martha (Bell) (Benson) Thompson and has lived in Simsbury for the past seventeen years. He was educated in Waterbury schools and later operated a service station and oil delivery business on East Main Street in Waterbury. He was an avid Boston Red Sox fan and was a member of Saint John's Episcopal Church.
He is survived by his sisters, Arlene Duley of Simsbury and Gladys Cole of Waterbury, a niece Sandra Banik and a nephew Jeffrey Cole both of Waterbury and two nephews Thomas Cole and Gerald Cole of South Carolina as well as several grand nieces and nephews.
Funeral services for Mr. Benson will be held Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. from the Alderson Funeral Home of Waterbury 9 Holmes Avenue to Saint John's Episcopal Church 16 Church Street for services at 11 a.m. Burial will follow in Hillside Cemetery in Thomaston. Friends may call at the funeral home Tuesday from 9:30 until the procession leaves for church.
