WATERBURY - Jacob Kazimierek, 87, passed away peacefully at home on November 25, 2014, surrounded by the love and comfort of his family. He was the husband of Rachel (Abromowitz) Kazimierek.
Jacob was born in Mlawa, Poland on December 10, 1926, son of the late Abraham and Hannah (Granaska) Kazimierek. He came to Waterbury in 1954 from Sweden. He worked at Bargain Food Center until 1962 when he opened his own store, Brass City Beef, until his retirement in 1990.
Jacob was a Holocaust survivor, having survived numerous labor and concentration camps during the war. He was one of only two members of his extended family to survive.
Besides his wife of 62 years, he is survived by his five children and eight grandchildren. Hannah and Louie Lewandowski and their son Louis of Clermont, FL; Frieda Winnick and her children, Ariel, Benjamin and Sydney of Simsbury, CT; Riva and Steven Montambault and their children, Danielle and Sean of Prospect; Abe and Lori Kazimierek and his children, Lauren and Max of Granite Bay, CA and Ruth Kazimierek of Clermont, FL. He will be missed dearly by all who knew him.
The family would like to thank Carly and Cathy for their excellent care, love and support they provided to Jacob throughout his illness.
Arrangements – A Graveside service will be held on Sunday November 30, 2014 at 1:00 p.m. at Hebrew Benefit Cemetery, Stillson Rd., Waterbury. Shiva will be observed at his home, 15 Grace Ave, following burial and on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday from 4 to 8 p.m. at the home of Frieda Winnick, 24 Farmstead Lane, West Simsbury. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made in Jacob's memory to Jewish Federation of Western CT, 444 Main St., North, Southbury, CT 06488 or Hartford Healthcare, Inc. (formerly VNA Healthcare), 103 Woodland Street #1, Hartford, CT 06105. The Alderson-Ford Funeral Home of Waterbury is assisting with arrangements.
