CHESHIRE – Irene Szczepanski, 94, passed away January 31, 2018 at Masonicare in Wallingford. She was the wife of the late Raymond S. Szczepanski who passed away in 2007.

Irene was born March 9, 1923 in New Britain the daughter of the late Andrew and Mary Sowa. A lifelong seeker of knowledge and an avid reader, Irene excelled in school. She earned academic excellence awards including a silver key from Quinnipiac College. Irene received her undergraduate degree from SCSU in New Haven. She went on to receive her Master’s degree from CCSU in New Britain.

Irene taught English and later was a reading instructor at E.C. Goodwin Technical High School in New Britain. She was a world traveler and her hobbies included needle point, crocheting, cooking, doll collecting and gardening.

After her marriage in 1945, Irene and her husband built a home in Cheshire. She is survived by her three children Dr. Raymond Szczepanski and his wife Kathleen of Cheshire; Patrice A. Duca and her husband Robert of Franklin, MA; and Robert Szczepanski and his wife Gayle of Middletown; and by her sister Elizabeth Essel; her grandchildren Robert Jr. and Michael Duca; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Arrangements – Funeral service will be held on Friday February 2, 2018, 10:15 from the Alderson-Ford Funeral Home of Cheshire, 615 S. Main St. to St. Bridget Church for a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 am. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Friday morning from 9 am until the funeral procession leaves for church. Memorial contributions may be made to the Susan G. Komen for the Cure, 74 Batterson Park Rd., Farmington, CT 06032-2565.
