Irene Kuraitis

Miss Irene Elizabeth Kuraitis, 85, of Naugatuck, passed away Thursday evening Feb. 27 2014 at the VITAS Hospice unit at St. Mary's Hospital.

Miss Kuraitis was born in Waterbury, May 22, 1928, a daughter of the late Adam and Mary (Mazelka) Kuraitis and was a lifelong Naugatuck resident. She was educated in the local school system and was a graduate of Naugatuck High School. She received her Bachelor's degree from Valparaiso University in Indiana. in 1950 receiving a BA , minoring in English & French with a minor in education. She was employed by the Waterbury Hospital as Secretary to the Administrator prior to her retirement. She was a member of St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church, Waterbury.

She leaves one sister Ruth Schweitzer of Deep River and one nephew Donald E Schweitzer of Deep River and one niece, Karen (Hessinger) Kuchinskas of Milford. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her sister, Dorothy Hessinger.

Funeral services will be held on Friday Mar.7, 2014 at 1 p.m. at the Alderson Funeral Home of Naugatuck, 2201 Meadow St., with the Rev. Joel D. Kotila, officiating. Burial will be in the spring in Grove Cemetery. Family and friends may call at the prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church, 503 Chase Parkway, Waterbury 06708-3354.
