NAUGATUCK- Irene Audrey Nitowski, 92, entered eternal life on October 23, 2020 in the VITAS Inpatient Hospital Unit at St. Mary’s Hospital surrounded by her loving family. She was the beloved wife of the late Joseph S. Nitowski who predeceased her on April 17, 1986.
Irene was born December 4, 1927 in Duryea, PA the daughter of the late Stephen and Margaret (Simonovich) Mihok. She and her late husband Joseph were married September 1, 1952 and together they raised three children.
She was a humble woman, and devoted to her family. She was a devout Catholic and communicant of St. Francis of Assisi Church in Naugatuck.
Irene is survived by her daughter Debra Nitowski of Naugatuck; two sons Stephen Nitowski of Naugatuck, and Joel and his wife Candace Nitowski of Meriden; and one very special grandson David Cajigas of Windsor. She was also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents she was predeceased by her son Joseph Nitowski, two sisters Ursula Howard and Marion Gray along with two brothers, Thomas Mihok and Stephen Mihok.
Our family would like to express our thanks to the entire staff at VITAS Hospice for their loving and compassionate care provided to our Mom during her final days. Special thanks go to Nurses Maria McCoy and June Belzaire for their love and support given to our family in our time of need.
A private funeral service for Mrs. Nitowski will be held at St. Francis of Assisi Church, 318 Church St, Naugatuck, 06770. A private burial will be held in St. James Cemetery. The Alderson-Ford Funeral Home of Naugatuck, 201 Meadow St, 06770 is assisting with the arrangements.
