WATERBURY- Howard W. Healey, 97, passed away, Saturday April 14, 2012, in the VITAS unit of St. Mary's Hospital. He was predeceased by his wife of 69 years, Charlotte (Harrison) Healey in 2007.
He was born September 30, 1914 in Waterbury, son of the late James P. and Mary (Flaherty) Healey.
Howard was educated at local schools and attended the School of Foreign Service at Georgetown University. After the onset of World War II, he started his career in the Automotive Field. He was a Sales Manager at the local Ford agency on Meadow St, and then General Manager of John J. Collins Chrysler- Plymouth for over twenty years. Then he reopened the National Car Rental Office in Southbury. While in Southbury he was a member of the Board of Directors and Treasurer of the Southbury Business Association. Shortly before his passing, he was a Car Rental Manager at Shakers Lincoln Mercury in Watertown.
He was a member of the ELKS lodge #265, past member of the Local Chapter American Red Cross, and past Treasurer of the Mattatuck Sport Car Club. Howard was very philanthropic and supportive of Animal Rights Organizations and Environmental Programs.
Howard is survived by a son Richard H Healey and his wife Mary of Wolcott; three grandchildren Jason Healey of Swampscott, MA, Christopher Healey of Washington D.C, and Douglas Leichner of Bangor, ME. Also, surviving are several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a brother James Healey.
Arrangements- Funeral Services for Howard are private. Burial will be held at the convenience of the family. There are no calling hours. The Alderson Funeral Home of Waterbury, 9 Holmes Ave, 06710 is in charge of the arrangements.
