Herman “Sonny” “Mike” Solomon, 91, passed away peacefully at his home on Thursday, August 17, 2017, surrounded by his loved ones. He was the husband of Donna (DiLeo) Solomon.
Mr. Solomon was born on December 6, 1925, in Brooklyn, New York, son of the late Israel and Ida Solomon. He was a graduate of Crosby High School and served in the U.S. Army Air Corp. After his discharge from military service, Herman attended Boston University where he earned degrees in business and accounting. He began working in the garment trade and became owner of Liela Dress Company of Waterbury, which manufactured women’s dresses.
Mr. Solomon served on the board of Beth El Synagogue, the Men’s Club, and other local organizations. He was past president of the Connecticut Dress Manufacturers Association and served on the Board of Directors of United Better and Popular Price.
In addition to his wife Donna, Herman is survived by his two sons, Gerald Solomon of Long Beach, CA, and Kenneth Solomon, and his wife Diane, of Swampscott, MA. He will also be missed by his three grandchildren, Morgan, Garrett, and Ross, his two sisters, Ruth Rudnick and Roslyn (Elliott) Jaffe, and several nieces and nephews.
Arrangements – Family and friends are invited to attend a memorial service for Mr. Solomon on Monday August 28, 2017 at 12:00 PM at The Alderson-Ford Funeral Home of Waterbury, 496 Chase Avenue, Waterbury, with Rabbi Herrmann officiating.
