Leaves Loving Family in Connecticut

Delray Beach, FL Richard Sidney Herman passed away on August 22, 2022. He was born on May 1, 1938 in Boston, MA and was the son of Max and Edith Herman.

He grew up just outside of Boston, graduated from Boston Latin School, Lowell Tech and then earned a degree in Electrical Engineering. He went on to earn a Master's Degree at New Jersey Institute of Technology. He joined the ROTC program as a precursor to enlisting in the Air Force. His basic training brought him to Biloxi, MS and then he was transferred to Bangor, ME, and was finally stationed in Istanbul, Turkey. He lived there for about 18 months, and then came back to the States, settling in Clifton, NJ where he and first wife Judith brought up their two children, Glenn and Erick.

As a civilian, he began working for the US Army. Unfortunately, Erick and Judith passed away in 1996. Shortly thereafter he was given support that turned into love by his present wife Judy Herman. They married in 1999 and had 23 wonderful years as they merged their families together. Dick had taken a position in Hawaii shortly after their marriage where he worked as a Science Advisor at Schofield Barracks. They lived in Hawaii for two years after which they came back to New Jersey and he retired soon after. Their lives then took them to Delray Beach, Florida where they started a new chapter surrounding themselves with wonderful friends where they have happily spent the last years, until Dick's sudden passing.

Dick had many hobbies including collecting stamps and coins. He took up golfing, playing not only in a men's league, but also in a couples' league with Judy. He recently got himself into a weekly poker game that he really enjoyed. Dick volunteered for many organizations. Some of his positions included being President of his building association, Vice Chairman of the King's Point Recreation Corporation, President of Temple Sinai's brother hood, and Vice President of the Alliance of Delray. He was known as a great organizer and a hard worker. He was very diligent in getting the job done and getting it done well.

Family was always a priority for Dick. He loved spending time with his children and grandchildren. He and Judy would plan vacations yearly where their melded family could be together. He considered Judy's family as his own. They all spent many years in Brigantine, NJ, taking cruises and the last several years spending family vacations on Cape Cod, MA.
Dick is survived by his loving wife Judy, his sons, Dr. Glenn and Jeff; his daughters Amy and Tina; his grandchildren Zachary, Jenna, Jey, Brandon, Morgan, Kellen, Brady; his greatgrandson Reed, and many nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his sister Rhonda Bornstein and sister-in-law Susan Rosen.

Funeral services and burial were held in Florida. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made for veteran assistance to American Legion Post #17, P.O. Box 226, Naugatuck, CT 06770
