Southington – Herman C. Asmus, 88, passed away peacefully on June 5, 2017, at Bradley Memorial Hospital. He was the husband of L. Jean (Hirsch) Asmus.
Mr. Asmus was born on March 4, 1929, the son of the late Herman and Edith (Madison) Asmus. Herman spent his childhood in New Haven and graduated from Hillhouse High School. He retired in 1985 from the United Illuminating Company and was a longtime Cheshire resident before moving to Southington. He was a member of the Cheshire Democratic Town Committee and the Cheshire Masonic Lodge, and in his retirement, was a school bus driver for the students of Cheshire. He also maintained and repaired the voting machines for all Cheshire voting districts. In his retirement, Herman enjoyed playing golf and was a diehard New York Giants fan.
In addition to his wife, Mr. Asmus is survived by his daughters, Laurene Asmus of Cheshire, and Claudia Baron, and her husband, Keith, of Cheshire. He will also be missed by his grandsons, Kyle, and Dylan. He was predeceased by his sisters, Dorothy Campbell and Evelyn Allen.
Arrangements – Funeral services for Mr. Asmus will be Saturday, June 10, at 10:00 A.M. the Cheshire Lutheran Church, 660 W Main St. Friends are asked to meet directly at church. Burial, with full military honors, will be at Cheshire Hillside Cemetery. Calling hours will be held Friday, June 9, 2017, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Alderson-Ford Funeral Home, 615 S.
