NAUGATUCK- Mrs. Helen Elizabeth (Dow) Thomas, 101, of Naugatuck, passed away Friday Oct. 23, 2015 at her home. She was the widow of John B. Thomas who passed away in 1990 after more than 50 years of marriage.

Mrs. Thomas was born in Dover-Foxcroft, ME, Mar. 14. 1914, a daughter of the late Lewis and Lillian (Mitchell) Dow and was a graduate of Foxcroft Academy and formerly lived in Watertown, and California prior to moving to Naugatuck in 1984. She was a former employee of Sylvania in California for more than 20 years, retiring in 1984. She was a member of the United Methodist Church of Watertown and in her earlier years, had been active in many church activities, such as the choir, Sunday school and Youth Leadership.

She leaves one son, John Thomas of Naugatuck; 2 daughters, Evelyn Nelson of Waterbury and Betty Blanner of West Springfield, MA; one brother, Lewis Dow of Dover-Foxcroft, ME; one sister, Luella Ostrofky of Easton, CT; 11 Grandchildren, 16 Great-Grandchildren and one Great-Great-Granddaughter. In addition to her parents and her husband she was predeceased by 2 daughters, Marcia Gray and Helen Mary Derengowski and 4 brothers and 3 sisters.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday Oct. 29, 2015 at 11 a.m. at the Alderson-Ford Funeral Home of Naugatuck, 201 Meadow St. Burial will be at the convenience of the family in Evergreen Cemetery, Watertown. Friends may call at the funeral home on Thursday morning from 10 a.m. until the time of the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation-Conn. Affiliate, 74 Batterson Park Rd., Farmington, CT. 06032-2565.
