Hazel M. (Rassiga) Yakulevich, age 89, of Waterbury entered into rest on Sunday, January 8, 2017 at Waterbury Hospital. Hazel was born on June 22, 1927 in Canaan, daughter of the late Frank and Perina (Poggia) Rassiga, and was a longtime Waterbury resident.
Hazel retired from Bendix in Cheshire in the early 1990’s, where she worked in Quality Control. She was an avid gardener, a wrestling (WWE) fanatic and enjoyed sunbathing and trips back “home” to Canaan in her spare time. Hazel’s entire world was her family and close neighborhood friends, her granddaughter-in-law’s mother, Grace Rinaldi, had become so special to her, she considered her as a daughter.
She is the beloved mother of Frances Barriault of Waterbury and Albert Yakulevich, Jr. and his wife, Wendy Lux of Maine. Hazel is also survived by her loving grandchildren, Stacey Shanahan and her husband, Bryan of Southington; Michael Barriault and his wife, Sandra of Waterbury; and Connor and Brandon Yakulevich of Maine; her cherished great grandchildren, Ava Barriault, Owen and Mackenzie Shanahan and one more on the way. She was predeceased by her siblings.
A service for Hazel will be held in the Spring and at the convenience of her family. The Alderson-Ford Funeral Home of Waterbury has been entrusted with her care.
