Cheshire ' Harold C. Buckelew Jr., 86 of E. Mitchell Ave., passed away Thursday July 9, 2009 at the Alzheimer's Resource Center in Plantsville.
Mr. Buckelew was born December 10, 1922 in Newark, NJ the son of the late Harold and Charlotte (Rhodes) Buckelew Sr. He was a WWII Army Veteran serving in New Guinea, specializing in small boat operations. He was a graduate of Stevens Institute, obtaining his degree in Mechanical Engineering. He was employed in the Industrial Metal industry as a salesman for Dow Chemical as well as a Manufacturer's representative for Reynolds Aluminum.
Mr. Buckelew resided in the mid-west before settling in Cheshire in the 1980's. His hobbies included playing tennis which he played multiple times a week as well as in various tournaments. In addition to playing tennis he enjoyed flying his Piper J-3 Cub plane when he was younger. In recent years he enjoyed traveling and touring places like the Galapagos Islands. He was also a member of the Unitarian Church and the Audubon Society.
Mr. Buckelew is survived by his daughters Constance Aigner of Lake Villa, IL and Sherri Zuchniarz of Wauconda, IL; his former wife Priscilla F. Lavin of Cheshire as well as his six grandchildren.
Arrangements ' Funeral services and burial in Restland Memorial Park in New Jersey will be held at the convenience of the family and there are no calling hours. Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Resource Center, 1261 S. Main St., Plantsville, CT 06479. The Slater Funeral Home 2424 S. Main St., is in charge of arrangements.
