Devoted to her family
Beacon Falls, CT Vickie Hanson, 67, wife of Edward Hanson, died peacefully on March 19, 2022 at her home surrounded by her loving family.
Vickie was born July 9, 1954 in Amsterdam, NY a daughter of the late Walter and Constance (Moore) Thatcher and lived in Crown Point, NY where she graduated from Crown Point Central School. Vickie worked for 23 years as a paraprofessional for the Naugatuck Board of Education, retiring in 2009. Most of her career was spent in special education, where she demonstrated her great love of children. Besides working in the school system, Vickie also ran the family farm stand, with the help of her grandchildren. Vickie was a life member of the Bethlehem Fair, serving as Superintendent of Poultry for 26 years. Vickie enjoyed camping trips with her family and friends, frequent trips to Crown Point to visit her brothers and sisters and playing raucous card games. Vickie relished her time spent with her sister and best friend, Ginny. Vickie loved working in her gardens, watching UConn women’s basketball (Go Huskies) and her favorite soap operas. Vickie was very involved with family activities, always scheduling her time around the family’s many sporting events, dance recitals, birthday celebrations and gatherings. There is no doubt about her devotion to her family. Above all else, her biggest joy was spending time with her grandchildren. She has left us now to be with her family in Heaven, but her loving spirit will live on with her family and friends forever.
In addition to Ed, her husband of 46 years, Vickie is survived by her children, Larry Hanson (Gabrielle) of Naugatuck, Katherine Grudzien (Steve) of Tampa, FL and Jason Hanson (Jennifer) of Naugatuck; her grandchildren, Ashlyn & Larry Hanson, Janee, Nickolous, Sara and Cameron Tarmey, Carter and Paisley Hanson; her step grandchildren, Louis Troiano and Steven Grudzien and her great grandson, Aaron Stevenson; her brothers, Steve Thatcher(Aggie), Walter Thatcher (Marlene) and Donald Thatcher all of Crown Point, NY; her sisters, Sue Dorsett (Mike), Sharon LaFountain (Dan), Lisa Harrington (Dan) all of Crown Point, NY, Ginny Barone (Bud) of Morris, CT and Maureen Morgan (Greg) of Pasadena, TX; her brother in law, Jeff Hanson (Donna) of Naugatuck; her sister in law, Barbara Winslow (Gaylord) of Middlebury and her many loving nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Vickie was predeceased by her infant sister Debbie, sister and brother in law, Pam and Donnie McGinness, brother in law, Tom Dorsett and nephew, Paul Martin.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday at 10:00am at St. Vincent Ferrer Church, 1006 New Haven Road, Naugatuck. Everyone attending is asked to please meet at church. Burial will follow in Grove Cemetery, Cross Street, Naugatuck. Calling hours are Friday from 5-8pm at the Buckmiller Thurston Mengacci Funeral Home, 82 Fairview Avenue, Naugatuck.
