Vera Grohs

Naugatuck, CT Vera S. (Sheridan) Grohs, 79, passed away peacefully on February 10, 2024, surrounded by her loving family.

Vera was born December 19, 1944, in Waterbury, CT daughter of the late James and Vera (Nordstrom) Sheridan. She lived in Naugatuck all her life, graduated from Naugatuck High School, class of 1963, and worked at Waterbury Hospital.

Vera was a dedicated mother and grandmother who enjoyed spending time with family and friends. Vera is survived by her sons, Kenneth Grohs, Jr. (Carrie) of Naugatuck and James Grohs (Patricia) of Middlebury; her daughter, Kimberly Gilbert (Dr. Richard) of Middlebury; her beloved grandchildren, Corey Grohs, Kaitlyn Grohs, Carly Grohs, Joshua Gilbert, Samantha Gilbert, and Matthew Grohs; several nieces, nephews, cousins, and many lifelong close friends.

Vera was predeceased by her aunt, Helen R. Sheridan, who raised her after her parents passed away and her former husband, Kenneth Grohs, Sr.

Family and friends will gather to honor and celebrate Vera’s life on Saturday, February 17, 2024, from 3:00 to 5:00pm at the Buckmiller Thurston Mengacci Funeral Home, 82 Fairview Avenue, Naugatuck. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers and to honor Vera’s memory, donations are requested to Naugatuck Ambulance, 246 Rubber Ave., Naugatuck, CT 06770.
