Grace M. Oakes

Grace M. Oakes, 90, formerly of Norwalk, passed away Tuesday, June 11, 2024 at Havencare at Filosa in Danbury. She was the wife of the late Joseph J. Oakes.

Mrs. Oakes was born October 3, 1933, in Brooklyn, N.Y., daughter of the late William and Grace (Wright) Blume. She was a retired retail worker.

Mrs. Oakes leaves behind her children, Joanne Svogun, and her husband, John, of Cheshire CT, Bill Oakes and his wife, Sandy, of Fort Myers, FL. Karen Smith and her husband, Bill, of Leland, N.C., Grace Oakes of Carmel NY., Suzanne Hopkins, and her husband, Wayne Root, of Carmel, NY. She will also be missed by her 10 Grandchildren and 4 Great Grandchildren. Mrs. Oakes was pre deceased by her husband. 

Arrangements – A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 9 a.m. on Tuesday, June 18, 2024 at St. Bridget of Sweden Parish / St. Bridget Church, 175 Main Street., Cheshire. Burial will follow in Calverton National Cemetery in Calverton, New York. Friends may call at The Alderson-Ford Funeral Home of Cheshire, 615 South Main Street, Tuesday morning, June 18, 2024, from 8:00 A.M. until departure. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions, in her name, may be made to Foundation Fighting Blindness.
