Janet Gonski

Uncasville, CT Janet Lynn Gonski, 67, died unexpectedly on January 17, 2018 at her home.

Janet was born in Waterbury, CT on January 20, 1950, the daughter of the late Joseph G. and Helen (Tarnowski) Gonski, Sr. and lived in Uncasville for the past 10 years. Janet was a dedicated teacher who taught at City Hill Middle School in Naugatuck for 30 years before retiring. She graduated from Naugatuck High School, attended Ladycliff College in Highland Falls, NY and earned a Bachelor of English from Central Connecticut State University in 1972; she earned her Sixth Year Certificate in Reading at Sacred Heart University in Fairfield. Janet enjoyed reading, old movies, TV celebrity history and volunteering at the Howard Whittemore Memorial Library in Naugatuck.

Janet is survived by her brother, Joseph G. Gonski, Jr. of Prospect; her brother in law, Steven Reed of Niantic; her nephews and nieces; Michael and Pam Gonski and family of Uncasville, Brian and Marcy Gonski and family of Milford, David and Debbie Gonski and family of Silver Spring, MD, John and Jill Gonski and family of Sandy Hook and Stephanie Reed and family of Uncasville and many cousins. In addition to her parents, Janet was predeceased by her sister, Judith A. Reed and her sister in law, Sally A. Gonski.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, January 27, 2018 at 10:00am at St. Francis of Assisi Church, 318 Church Street, Naugatuck. Everyone attending is asked to please go directly to church. Burial will follow in St. James Cemetery, Naugatuck. Calling hours are Friday, January 26, 2018 from 5-7pm at the Buckmiller Thurston Mengacci Funeral Home, 82 Fairview Avenue, Naugatuck.
