Timex Retiree, Outdoorswoman, Active in Charities
Prospect- Lillian Ursula DeSanto Gomez, beloved wife of Joseph L. Gomez went to meet her Lord and Savior on Sunday November 4th 2012 .peacefully, surrounded by her family.
Lillian was born in Oakville Connecticut on Easter Sunday March 27th, 1932, Daughter of the late Frank and Mary DePaola DeSanto.
She was educated in local schools and worked for many years for the Timex Corporation and later for Allied Bendix.
Lillian and Joseph operated a Christmas Tree Farm in Monticello Maine for over 40 years until her illness. She was an avid lover of all things nature and enjoyed cross country skiing, snowshoeing, and riding her beloved Honda Three Wheeler.
Most of all she enjoyed her role of Wife, Mother, Grandmother, and favorite aunt. Every Sunday, the table was set for ten or more of family and friends. Italian specialties were her favorite but she learned from her late mother in law Louise Gomez how to roast the perfect turkey.
Holidays were special to Lil too and her oven was constantly warm from baking cookies.
Mrs. Gomez was an active member and daily Communicant of St. Anthonys’ Church in Prospect until her illness. She also belonged to The Prospect Historical Society, Prospect Senior Center, Timex-Bendix Retireee Group, Franciscan Family Apostolate, Saint Anthony’s Rosary Society and The Guthrie Family Reunion Committee.
Her favorite charity was the Russian Orphanage Program. During a 5 year period she personally sorted packed and arranged for shipment thousands of pounds of clothing and supplies for Childrens’ Orphanage #34 in St. Petersburg Russia . She also traveled to St. Petersburg to assess further needs.
She enjoyed hiking the trails all over Connecticut with Joseph and her dear pals Bill and Maria Hewitt, friends of forty years standing.
In addition to her husband she is survived by three children: Lawrence J. Gomez and wife Teri of Prospect, John J. Gomez, of California , and Laurene Gomez of Prospect her faithful nephew Salvatore F. Guiliano also of Prospect and her precious God Children, Elizabeth Synott of Winsted, and Judith Wrogg of Watertown ..
She leaves behind five grandchildren; Samantha Gomez, Marc Gomez, Amanda Gomez, Karley Gomez, and Eric Gomez. Several nieces and nephews. During her illness, faithful Teenie the dog and Lacey the cat rarely left her side or her thoughts
Lillian was predeceased by eight brothers, Lawrence, Salvatore, Paul, Joseph, John, Michael, Thomas, and Peter. Three sisters, Mrs. Henry (Angelina) Radwick,Mrs. Carlton( Delores) Cyphers, and Mrs Andrew( Anna) Guiliano.
Lillian lived a worthwhile active Christian life and asks friends not to grieve but instead remember the good times shared together.
Family wishes to express their gratitude to Father Mark Suslenko and the Pastoral Staff of St. Anthonys’ Church, caregivers Imma, Dawn, Paula, Ro, and especially to her dear friends, Jennifer and Monica Absalom.
Gratitude is also due to VNA nurse Karla and the staff of the Waterbury Hope Hospice team.
The funeral will be held on Thursday, November 8, 2012 at 9:30 a.m. from the Buckmiller Brothers Funeral Home, 26 Waterbury Rd, Rte 69, Prospect to St. Anthony's Church for a mass at 10:00 a.m. Burial will be at the convenience of the family. Friends may call at the funeral home, Wednesday evening from 4-8 p.m.
