Gloria Singleton, 91, passed away at home on Thursday, April 28th, 2022. She was born on January 20, 1931 in Monessen, PA.
She graduated high school early, at age 16 and went to college in Philadelphia, PA. Gloria lived in many cities before she settled in Waterbury, CT where she called home for many, many years.
She was predeceased by her loving husband of 57 years, Alvin Singleton; her daughters, Daryl and baby Stacy; her sons, James, Jeffery, and her stepson Craig. She is survived by her grandchildren, Gloria McQueen (NV), James Grant III (FL), Jennifer Grant (CT), Jessica Perez (FL), Juliette Cole (CT), Joshua Singleton (CT), Jonathan Singleton (CT), Journey Singleton (CT), 17 great grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, and other family and friends.
Gloria was an avid traveler. She's visited many countries throughout Europe, Africa, Asia, North and South America. She enjoyed seeing new places and meeting new people. Gloria was the First Vice-President of the League of Women Voters in Waterbury, May 1970. She served on the Board of Directors for The Waterbury Girl's Club in 1974. She was a member of the National Political Congress of Black Women in 1989. Gloria worked for many years in the hospitality and tourism industry before opening her own travel agency in the early 80's. Gloria received numerous awards and achievements for her service in the travel industry by various entities. Gloria retired from Internet Travel Agency at 88 years old, but continued to plan annual trips to see biblical plays at Sight & Sound Theater for many members of her beloved church and a slew of friends. She was a devoted member of Grace Baptist Church for many years.
A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, May 28, 2022 at 11am at Grace Baptist Church, 65 Kingsbury St., Waterbury, CT, with repast to follow.
