CANAAN - Madeline M. (Fredericks) Girulis, 90, formerly of Naugatuck, passed away on Wednesday, Dec. 5, 2012, at Geer Nursing and Rehab after a long illness surrounded by her loving family. For 61 years, she was the beloved wife of John Girulis.
Mrs. Girulis was born on Aug. 16, 1922, in Williamsport, Pa., a daughter of the late Raymond Fredericks and Emma (Klensing) Fredericks. She was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church and a former member of the Dorcas Guild. Madeline was a loving and devoted wife, mother and grandmother. Her greatest pleasure in life was spending time with her family. She had a passion for reading and a great love of animals and nature.
She is survived by her two daughters, Linda Plourde and her husband, Dennis, of New Bern, N.C., and Janet Garceau and her husband, Ronald, of Goshen; and five grandchildren, Matthew, Laurie, Shilo, Roger and Rachel. She also leaves three great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Besides her husband, she was predeceased by her sister, Phyllis Luxenburger, and her four brothers, Raymond, Bernard, Charles and Paul.
The family would like to give a heartfelt thanks to the staff at Geer Nursing and Rehab for the loving care they provided to Madeline for the past six years.
The funeral will be held on Saturday, Dec. 8, 2012, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, 350 Millville Ave., Naugatuck. Burial will be in Grove Cemetery. There are no calling hours. The Buckmiller Brothers Funeral Home, 82 Fairview Ave., Naugatuck, is in charge of arrangements.
