Mary Gibran

Naugatuck-Mary L. (Rubini) Gibran, 89, the wife of the late Charles Gibran Jr., passed away peacefully on Feb. 2, 2016, with her loving family at her side.

Mary was born in White Plains, NY and lived there until her teen years, at which time her family moved to Naugatuck, where she graduated from high school at age 16. As a youngster, she was an accomplished tap dancer and, blessed with a beautiful voice, she often performed on the radio with her cousin in New York City.

Mary will be forever missed by her children Catherine Gibran, Esq., and her husband Steven Brown of Providence, RI, Ann Gibran of Naugatuck, with whom she made her home in recent years, and Charles M. Gibran of Naugatuck; her grandchildren Brian Gibran and Jennifer Gibran, both of Naugatuck, and Rachel Brown of Seattle, WA; her beloved great grandson, Nathan July of Naugatuck; her brother and sister-in-law, James and Dianne Marco of Naugatuck; her dear sister-in-law, Mary Andrews of Naugatuck; and her friend Frank Caliola of Southington. She also leaves her loving canine companion and protector, Windy.

Mary was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years Charles Gibran, mother Catherine Marco, father Dominick Rubini, stepfather Joseph Marco, brother Joseph Marco, Jr., and most of her closest friends.

Until her retirement, Mary was a supervisor at UniRoyal.

Mary, a communicant of St. Francis Parish, loved cooking, baking (especially her incomparable apple pies), singing, dancing, and Frank Sinatra. She was devoted to her family and friends, and her greatest joy was being a wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She taught her family the value of love, tolerance and hard work.

Family and friends may call from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Thursday, February 4, at the Buckmiller Thurston Mengacci Funeral Home, 82 Fairview Avenue, Naugatuck. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Friday, February 5, at St. Francis of Assisi Church, 318 Church St., Naugatuck. Burial will follow in St. James Cemetery.
