WATERBURY- Gertrude Payne, 84, passed away unexpectedly Thursday, December 13, 2012 at her residence. She was predeceased by her husband, Willis Charles Payne.
She was born January 15, 1928 in Waterbury daughter of the late Christian and his wife Anna (Oemcke) Schumacher.
Gertrude worked in the china, glass and silver department of the G. FOX Company, at Naugatuck Valley Mall prior to her retirement. She was a member of St. John's Episcopal Church in Waterbury where Mrs. Payne was a Sunday School teacher and vestry member, and for decades was the Altar Guild Directress.
She is survived by a son, Gary C. Payne and his fianc, Amy Lyons Kemler of Hamden, and a future grandson, James Kemler; a sister, Carolyn Schuster of Derby; three grandchildren, Christine and her husband, Alan Greggis of Milford, Heidi and her husband, Nicola Pellino of Waterbury, and Gary Payne of Waterbury; and two great grandchildren, Alyssa and Owen Greggis.
Arrangements- Gertrude's funeral will be held 9:15 A.M Monday December 17, 2012 from The Alderson Funeral Home of Waterbury, 9 Holmes Ave to St. John's Episcopal Church, 16 Church St, Waterbury, 06702 for a service at 10 A.M. Burial will follow in Grove Cemetery, Cross St, Naugatuck, 06770. Calling Hours will be held Sunday December 16, 2012 from 2 to 4 P.M at the funeral home. Donations in her name may be made to the St. John's Altar Guild, 16 Church St, Waterbury, 06702.
