WATERBURY- George John Zonas, 76, formerly of Naugatuck, passed away, Saturday, November 18, 2017 at Masonicare Health Center in Wallingford after a long and courageous battle with cancer. He was the loving husband of Elaine E. Zonas whom he was married to for 37 years.
Mr. Zonas was born January 1, 1941 in Waterbury son of the late John and Ethel (Cabeceiras) Zonas. George was a veteran of the United States Navy. He retired from Black and Decker where he was a Money Manager. During his retirement he worked part time at Quassy Amusement Park, in a position he fully loved and took pride in. George enjoyed two passions in life, skiing & music. He was a member of the Nava Ski Club and skied throughout the U.S., Canada and Europe with his many friends. He loved to play music and was a member of the Bristol Old Time Fiddlers. He enjoyed sitting in with musicians in Vermont and at home in Connecticut. George also was a member of the B.P.O.E Elks Lodge of Naugatuck #967.
Besides his wife Elaine George is survived by a son; one brother; his sister; two step-sons; one step-daughter; and several grandchildren, and great grandchildren.
Arrangements- A funeral service for Mr. Zonas will be held 11 A.M, Friday, January 12, 2017 at Hillside Covenant Church, 100 Hillside Ave, Naugatuck, 06770. Family and friends are asked to meet directly and church. Burial will be held at the convenience of the family, and there are no calling hours. The Alderson-Ford Funeral Home of Naugatuck, 201 Meadow St, 06770, is assisting the family with the arrangements.
