CHESHIRE- George O. Ellis Jr., 91, passed away peacefully on July 22, 2012 at Mid-State Medical Center in Meriden.
The son of the late George O. Ellis Sr. and Dorothy (Taylor) Ellis of Middlebury, he was born in Naugatuck.
He is survived by his wife Peggy (Needham) Ellis of Cheshire; sons Mark J. and his wife Elizabeth Ellis of Milwaukee, WI, and Kent B. and his wife Melanie Ellis of Rancho Santa Margarita, CA; a daughter Renee C. Ellis and her husband Brian Alexander of Wappingers Falls, NY; and grandson Stefan C. Ellis.
Mr. Ellis graduated from Wooster School, Danbury; received his Geology Degree from Brown University and did graduate work at Yale University.
He enlisted in the Army Air Corps in World War II and flew thirty five missions as a Navigator in the 8th Air Force.
George enjoyed a long career in the Petroleum Industry, which took him to Illinois, Wyoming, Montana, Colorado, Oklahoma, Texas and Califorina.
He returned to Connecticut in 1971 and went to work for Eastern Water Development Company for the next eighteen years. After retiring, George researched and wrote a book on one of his Revolutionary War Heroes, General David Wooster. He presented his alma mater, Wooster School, with a copy in 1994.
George was a lifetime mason and Rotarian and was a member of The First Congregational Church of Cheshire for 40 years. He also enjoyed his membership in the Sons of the American Revolution.
He will be sorely missed by his family and friends.
Arrangements- A Memorial Service for Mr. Ellis will be held at The First Congregational Church of Cheshire at a later date. A private burial will be held in Middlebury Cemetery.
