Genevieve S. 'Gen' McGuire

Genevieve S. "Gen" McGuire, age 83, of Cheshire and Waterbury native, passed away peacefully Tuesday, December 23, 2014 in the Cardiovascular Unit at St. Mary's Hospital in Waterbury. She was the devoted wife of Raymond G. McGuire, Jr. for 62 years and mother of Matthew J. McGuire. Gen was born on July 25, 1931 in Waterbury, daughter of the late John and Bridget (Sullivan) Smith.

A graduate of Post College, she received an Associate Degree in Business Administration. She recently retired from Coldwell Banker Real Estate in Cheshire after 28 years of serving as an Administrative Officer. Known for her good nature, Gen was a soft spoken, gentle person who always saw the good in every individual. Her son best described Gen when he called her a “Great lady”.

Besides her husband and son, she is survived by her brother, John Smith of Conway, SC and her aunt Martha Sullivan of Cheshire along with many nieces and nephews and numerous saddened friends.

Gen's funeral procession will leave the Alderson-Ford Funeral Home of Cheshire, 615 So. Main St., Cheshire, CT 06410, on Monday, December 29, 2014 at 10:15AM for a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 11AM in St. Bridget Church, 175 Main St., Cheshire. Interment will follow in St. Bridget Cemetery. Friends may greet her family at the funeral home on Monday from 9AM to 10:15AM. At the request of her family, memorial contributions may be made to a charity of one's choice.
